From Our Bookshelves: On Looking & Noticing
One For Teachers – On Looking
Follow author, Alexandra Horowitz as she takes us on 12 walks with her around a NYC block. On each walk she is accompanied by a different observer (a wildlife scientist, a geologist, her young son …) and experiences her surroundings through their eyes! A great book to spark our imagination as educators in providing students with different lenses in which to “see” a text, an activity and the world!
One For Students – Noticing
Use this book to introduce the skill of “noticing” or observing! In the book, a young girl meets an accomplished painter who refers to herself as a “noticer” and they begin a journey of looking at the ordinary and the extraordinary in everyday life. Noticing encourages students to pay attention and look with their eyes and their hearts. Great connections to interdisciplinary seeing and thinking and to SEL can be made!
Let’s grow this list of books. Please feel free to add titles of books you are thinking or using that would also work well with the “Observe & Wonder” Thinking Routine! Looking forward to your comments below and growing the collection!
